A. An introduction relative to the letter.

First of all, I would like to clarify that the letter to my “former” brotherly friend I wrote it in Greek, while I have changed all the names because of my “personal social sensibilities” and my “personal moral standards”, societal axioms that have become almost “obsolete” within our “impersonal”, “competitive” and everyday “virtual reality”!!!!

This “personal letter” I sent it to my “former” brotherly friend(through e-mail) who has lived for many years abroad, this with my last texts of my internet site. I tried to make myself clear to him that it would be the last time I comply with such “friendly initiatives” since I have come to finally realize that he has become an “artificially modified” human entity, who is trying to pass on to me his “existential darkness” and his “social superiority” after many years of important state positions which provided him with a lot of power and social status!!!! He truly believes that everyone, even the people who have really loved him, helped him and supported him during the “very difficult times” he lived through as a young adult and even after, have to behave towards him as “subservient” and “passive” human entities and not as “equals” and “close” fellow human beings(human empathy)!!!

First of all, I would like to clarify that for me personally, the Young Greek Generation of our own Greek Society, age wise, is represented by the “young adults” in their twenties and thirties, who today make up the majority of my former students, both male and female. Most of the young people I taught were in their adolescence and their early adulthood, which meant a very “turbulent”, “enigmatic” and “existentially difficult” period of their life!!!

I feel very lucky that Life has provided me with the opportunities and the means to be able to transmit some knowledge to my young students, but above all to instill in them the “critical existential factors” of self-knowledge, self-confidence and self-respect; human qualities which could support and enhance a more creative and independent personal behavior and thought process, superceding the “virtual reality” and the “spiritual mediocrity” of their own Society!!! Similarly, for me personally, it was equally as “precious” existentially, intellectually as well as spiritually, the fact that from my youngest student who was 5 years old to my adolescent and young adult students (male and female), I derived a lot of knowledge about “real life”, as well as receiving from them a lot of “positive energy” and especially “love feelings”, since with them I functioned as a “partner” and as a “friend”, and not as an “emotionally distanced guide” or a “purely professional instructor”!!!

I have always sought and aimed at creating those “universal human relations” between teacher and student, similar to those which had existed in Ancient Greece. Some such historical paradigms were the School of Pythagoras during the 6th Century B.C. in Syracuse in Italy, which included both male and female students, the very close relationship between Socrates and his young male students in Athens during the 4th Century B.C., famous students like Plato, Alkiviadis and Aristophanis, as well as the legendary intellectual and cultural guidance of Alexander the Great by his teacher Aristotle, while he was growing up in Macedonia!!!

Hippocrates (460 B.C.- 377 B.C.) is widely considered to be the father and the founder of the science of modern medicine. He was a scientist but also a philosopher, who by utilizing a rational and a dialectic thought process, expelled that epoch’s medical practices from its metaphysical aspects, from its traditional health preconceptions and traditional routine disease prevention; adding “social morality” and “humanistic values” to a systematic clinical diagnosis and disease treatment!!!

Hippocrates was educated in medicine and practiced the medical profession in various parts of Greater Greece, starting on the Aegean island of Ko, which is very close to Asia Minor. During his professional medical career, he not only treated the sick and taught the science of medicine, but he also made detailed notes about his observations and discoveries as a physician, his social perceptions and evaluations, as well as his scientific conclusions. These written notes by Hippocrates make up the Hippocratic Corpus, which represents 59 individual texts . It represents a collection of scientific knowledge which even today, is considered as an invaluable set of information in the various studies of modern Medicine.
